I Might Be Willing to Eat Shit for a Living!

This is part three of the story about my experience being a medical representative. It took place on the 18th of May, 2012.

After I took the knock out drops, I slept and woke up at 6 am. The boss was supposed to me at 7 am. Perfect. Problem is I did not have a car, and the driver who was supposed to take me from my grandma’s place then take me home to prepare was out cold. I kept ringing his phone till 6:30 am until he finally woke up. I nagged him for a bit but moved on; it’s only humane.

I was late for picking up the boss. In the confusion with only 5 minutes to go, I only grabbed my essentials, wore new clean clothes, packed some spares, and left. I took the suit but completely forgot to pack classic shoes. I kept it a secret. Being late for seeing the boss was bad enough.

So there I was, in the car, one hour down and two hours to go, sitting there, with the thought of how incompetent people you rely on can be. Because the driver slept in, I was both late and forgot my shoes. I thought up a solution. I knew a friend in Alexandria who could lend me some shoes. I couldn’t call him in front of the boss who was smoking in the back seat, so I decided to wait.

11 am and we made it to Alexandria. 11:30 am and we made it to the conference. We were half an hour late, and phase one was about to end an hour later at 12:30 pm. I had heard there’s a break until the conference resumes at 4 pm and lasts till 8 pm. I went out to a nearby mosque to pray Friday, al’Jumm’a, it’s called.

Afterwards, I called my friend. I know him coz he’s the Egyptian guy that I had met on the most famous bipolar group on facebook, Bipolarity. He was one of the admins there and had invited me to an Egypt only bipolar disorder victims gathering. It also welcome none Egyptians who mainly speak Arabic.

I told him of the situation and we discovered that I wear size 45.5 and he wears 46. It was good enough. I met him and we hung out at Makram, the best gellateria in not only Alexandria but also all of Egypt and probably the world. The gellati ice cream there is so incredible. Some Alexandria secret recipe I suppose. It’s soft, chewy, and the milky vanilla flavor is amazing.

We enjoyed the ice cream that I have to travel especially to taste, and envied his city for a bit. Compared to Cairo, Alexandria is a perfect vacation spot with its fair weather, beaches, gardens, libraries (The Great Library of Alexandria had been revived there!) and much less crowded, traffic jamless streets. How I wish I could live there.

I got the shoes, went back to the conference and everything went smoothly. The conference was over at 10 pm and it was time for my crazy pills. Pun intended.

I took them while we were set for Cairo and I fell asleep on my seat in the car. I was told that I had snored very loudly before my boss joined us but somehow stopped when he did. Always the funny guy, my unconscious. The next thing I knew, I was waking up at 9 am in my bed in Cairo. with no idea how I got there, and with my first real day of the job about to start in one hour.

It was a nightmare.
